August 2024 | The Nomad’s Dilemma: Balancing the Love for Physical Books with Digital Convenience

I get it—all the nerds would choose physical books. Feeling the sensations, the touch, the smell, and so on—I agree with you all 100%.

But! There’s a big BUT

First of all, living in Laos, it’s not easy to access the books I want to read. It’s doable, but it takes so many extra steps—ordering, shipping, and waiting. It feels like forever.

Secondly, traveling with physical books, how many do we need to carry with? I just finished 2 books in my transit from point A to B. I can’t imagine having more than 2 thick books in my carry-on backpack. I guess that’s my deal breaker—how I grew to love technology.

All in all, I love both physical and digital books, and if I ever settle in one place, I dream of having a reading nook in my art studio, too. But for now, traveling like a nomad, having a small Kindle with me is some kind of a luxury I can’t take for granted.
